Annual Festivals at the Heart of West Cork
Over the years, West Cork has become home to a number of festivals reflecting the variety and strengths of the landscape and its residents.
The Bantry Walking Festival celebrates the landscape and its history with organised group walks. The Chief O’Neill Festival highlights the legacy of Francis O’Neill, born in West Cork and who became Chief of Police in Chicago and who was instrumental in preserving much of Irish traditional music. Classical music is the theme of the St Barrahane’s Music Festival which has been staged at this parish church for over 30 years.
Of national importance are the three Festivals based in and around Bantry. West Cork Literary Festival and West Cork Chamber Music Festival bring writers and musicians of international reputation to the town. The Masters of Tradition Festival is a showcase for the best in Irish traditional music and its singers and instrumentalists.
